As the regular season begins to wind to a close, days without practice can be a gift to so many NFL players who have gone through a long season. On Monday night we had the day off from practice, but instead of focusing on the gift of rest I turned my focus to giving gifts to those who needed it.
Through my Blanket Coverage Foundation, we were able to buy Christmas presents for more than 25 families who could not have otherwise afforded them. It was a night that was centered on trying to bring some Christmas joy into the lives of these families. This is the season of giving and my foundation wanted to be sure we were doing everything we could to give back to our supportive and loving community. We wanted to make the night as fun as we could by giving these families a chance at pictures, autographs and lots of laughs.
It is fun for everybody involved, including myself. I enjoy being able to see kids light up with that sort of childlike joy. Sometimes all that a kid may need is just a little bit of inspiration for them to do what it takes to chase after their dreams.
This event was a lot of fun, but there was so much work that went on behind the scenes. A lot of that credit has to go to my fiance’ Ashley Moss. She did the shopping for each family - handpicking each present so that every family gets just they need.
There’s so much to be thankful for during this time of year and I hope you take time to express gratitude where it's needed. Merry Christmas!!
